Samsung has a reputation for producing some of the most well-known smartphones, tablets and TVs. But did you know that the company also produces excellent laptops. Although it’s not as well-known for its PCs, Samsung has produced innovative 2-in-1s (and affordable Chromebooks) that are both high quality and affordable. These devices are as high-quality and polished as Samsung’s other categories. They also offer an alternative to more productivity-focused laptops such as those from HP, Lenovo, and Dell. It can be difficult to choose a laptop due to the variety of choices. The best Samsung laptops offer great portability and efficiency at an affordable price.

How we picked the best Samsung laptops

Over the last ten years, I’ve tested and reviewed laptops from various brands for websites like TechnoBuffalo, XDA Developers, and Android Central. We gathered reviews from users and critics to narrow down our list.

Things to consider when picking a laptop

When buying a laptop there are many things to consider. It can be overwhelming to look through all the options and make a decision. The best choice is to get a computer that has a faster processor and sufficient RAM to perform everyday tasks such as browsing the internet, editing photos, and writing papers. You need a graphics card to meet your needs if you work in video editing, graphic design or 3D software.

The laptops of Samsung, even the most powerful, are mid-range machines that focus on productivity. If you are looking for a laptop that is capable of handling graphics-intensive tasks such as gaming, we recommend Samsung.

No matter how you use your laptop, having newer components makes it easier to do the job. The heartbeat of every PC is the Central Processing Unit (or CPU). The performance of any computer’s processor is affected by many factors including architecture and cooling. However, you can quickly determine a laptop’s computing power by looking at its clock speed in GHz and the number cores within it. Most new laptops feature either 11th or 12th Generation Intel Core i5 and i7 processors, offering 6 or 8 processor cores. Your computer will be able to perform more tasks quickly and with a faster clock speed.

If you intend to play games and use creative software, a laptop that has a high-end GPU card (or GPU) like an Nvidia GTX/RTX card is a must. A GPU will help the CPU to process graphics faster and more smoothly. Laptops that are designed for general tasks often have integrated graphics attached to their motherboard. High-end laptops may have dedicated graphics cards that are independent from the motherboard and have their dedicated memory. Although most of Samsung’s laptops do not have a powerful graphics processor, the company does offer a laptop that has more GPU power to allow for gaming.

Memory and storage

We also carefully considered the amount of memory available to our selections. Random Access Memory (RAM) provides applications with a way to store and access data quickly and is a huge improvement in the speed of a computer’s ability to perform most tasks. We recommend getting a laptop with 8GB to 16GB of RAM for most people. However, a higher RAM is better as Samsung laptops don’t allow you to increase your memory later.

Most modern laptops use solid state drives (SSDs) to store and retrieve data. They also use a different technology than traditional hard drives. SSDs are more reliable, faster, and can be used to reduce loading times for files and other applications. We recommend getting a laptop with a 256GB hard drive to store your files, photos, and apps. If you can afford to do so, you should upgrade to 512GB or even 1TB, because storage can fill up quickly as you use it over time.

If you are going to be staring at your laptop screen for hours, it is worth investing in one that looks great. The size of your laptop screen is important. It affects portability, power, visual fidelity, and weight. Larger screens tend to be heavier, have more powerful components, and are also easier to carry around. We love a large screen, but if you plan to carry your laptop every day, we would recommend a 13- to 15-inch display. A larger laptop is better for multitasking and for trips.

Samsung’s less powerful 1080p (Full HD) displays are generally fine for more general use. We recommend reaching for a high-resolution display for creative work and gaming-either 1440p (Quad HD) or 3840×2160 (4K). Higher resolutions will give your screen a sharper look and let you see the finer details in your video and photos.

Some of the laptops on our list feature Super AMOLED displays, a touch-enabled variation of the same display technology found in OLED TVs. An AMOLED screen, like conventional OLEDs has each pixel independently lit by an LED light. This allows for precise control of contrast and color. Samsung’s “Super AMOLED” version of this technology integrates touch sensors into a display without adding an extra layer to the screen.

A display that is accurate in color will be ideal for creative work. You’ll be able make images and videos look as real as possible. You want a screen covering 90% to 100% of the sRGB color gamut. Some laptops take a step beyond this with support for DCI-P3, which offers 26% more color space than sRGB, which means DCI-P3 provides a greater range of colors for a more saturated and vibrant image.

Though we often use laptops untethered, a good work setup includes plugging in various peripherals like a monitor, an external hard drive, or a mouse and keyboard. You can connect devices to multiple ports easily by having many ports.

To import and export media quickly, your next laptop should have at least two high-speed ports like Thunderbolt 4 and USB-C. An Ethernet port can be used to connect to your home network, or to connect to an external display. A built-in SD card reader makes it easy for creatives to use, as it eliminates the need to purchase additional dongles.

You can always get a USB hub to connect to augment your laptop with additional connection options if you need them, but there’s nothing more convenient than having them built-in.

Weight and design

They say beauty is all about the skin, but we must admit that we prefer laptops made from aluminum to plastic. Laptops are meant to be carried around so we prefer a lightweight design. Laptops should balance design, performance, weight, and thickness. A 13-inch display is incredibly portable but can feel cramped with multiple apps running simultaneously. On the other hand, 17-inch laptops tend to be gigantic and hard to haul around. You should go with what feels right for you, but we feel like a good middle ground for a laptop is roughly 3 pounds to 5 pounds with a screen size between 14 and 16 inches.

Battery life

Laptop users often work in different places and are away from power outlets. There is an inverse correlation between battery life and power on laptops. The higher the processor power, the more often it must be charged.

We want a battery that can withstand a long day of work. This is a requirement for productivity models such as many Samsung’s. You may need to be flexible if you intend to use your laptop to edit video or play games.
