A future version of WhatsApp enables users migrate their chats data across platforms. The feature is currently offered in a beta version of the app and only allows iOS to Android moves. There’s not any word as to if it will be available on the stable version of WhatsApp, however.
Despite its huge popularity, WhatsApp still lacks several important features offered by competitors like Telegram. WhatsApp users have asked to be able to move their data across platforms (Android to iOS and vice versa) for years, and the only way to go about it was through third party customers like WhatsAppPlus and GB WhatsApp. That could be a reality soon, as a beta version of the program is now able to migrate talks between Android and iOS.
Wabetainfo reports that a future version of WhatsApp enables iOS users to move conversations to Android. The performance is most likely available to beta testers already, but there is no telling as to if it will make its way into a secure version of the messaging client. It arrives alongside the touted multi-device support, though the latter was in testing for quite a while.
However, implementation could be somewhat tricky, considering that WhatsApp talks are end-to-end encrypted, together with the decryption key being saved on-device. That, combined with WhatsApp talks being uploaded on different programs (Google Drive on Android vs iCloud on iOS), could complicate things further.
