PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Joel Embiid had 25 points and 13 rebounds and the Philadelphia 76ers used a dominating start to roll to a 111-99 victory over the Boston Celtics on Friday night.
Embiid was five points short of breaking the franchise record for 30 scoring at least nine points per game. With eight consecutive club marks, he is tied with Allen Iverson or Wilt Chamberlain.
” I was aware of it, but wasn’t chasing it,” Embiid stated. These are legends. It’s amazing that Wilt didn’t do it more than eight times. The win was my main goal going into tonight. We got the win and that’s what I’m happy about.”
Tyrese Maxey scored 23 points, and Tobias Harris and Seth Curry each added 17 to help the 76ers win for the eighth time in nine games.
The game turned on Philadelphia’s 28-2 first-quarter run. We got stops and got them taking a lot of difficult shots. Curry stated that it was a good start for us. “That was a good start for us.”
Jaylen Brown scored 21 points and Jayson Tatum had 20 for Boston. Three consecutive wins for the Celtics.
” The slow start didomed us,” Boston coach Ime Yudoka stated. I need to do a better job getting the guys ready to play. It was on me. It’s on me.”
With both teams playing the first half of a back-to-back, Udoka pulled his starters with 9: 17 left and trailing 89-72.
“There was not much going there so I wanted to see a spark in our younger players and tomorrow’s match played into it,” Udoka stated.
Philadelphia led by as many as 22 points in the first half, and the Celtics never cut the margin under double-digits after halftime.
Embiid has been on a tear since Dec. 26, upping his season average to 27.1 points per game entering Friday after a dominating eight-game stretch in which he averaged 32.6 points.
Things got heated with 28.8 seconds left in the quarter when Josh Richardson
